9, 2010 - AND THEY’RE OFF… - 30
athletes and 11 coaches and mission staff are off to London
Ontario on Monday, July 12th to compete in the 2010 National
Special Olympics Summer Games.
“These 30 athletes have been
training and practicing very hard since October and are
ready to do their best at the 2010 Games” says Team
PEI Chef de Mission Charity Sheehan. “The 2010 National
Summer Games provides PEI athletes an opportunity to compete
against their peers from across Canada and of course, take
home some medals!”
Team PEI will compete in Softball,
Swimming, 5-Pin Bowling, Athletics and 10-Pin Bowling.
Over 1,400 athletes, coaches and
mission staff from 10 provinces and 2 territories will compete
in this 5 day competition.
These games are Canada’s qualifying
event for the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games which
will be held in Athens, Greece.
Quick Facts
Team PEI consists
of 41 members (30 athletes and 11 coaches)
Competing
in 5 sports at the Summer Games (5-Pin Bowling,
10-Pin Bowling, Athletics, Swimming, and Softball).
Leave:
July 12th at 6:00 am from the Charlottetown Airport
Opening Ceremonies:
July 13th at TD Waterhouse Station, Western Campus
Last Day of Competition:
July 17th
Arrive Home: July
18th at 12:00 pm (first wave of athletes) and 6:00 pm (second
wave of athletes) at the Charlottetown Airport

28, 2010 - Draft A Team Member Program -
The Team PEI Draft an Athlete program allows local businesses
to sponsor an athlete and/or coach in their community; sponsorship
to the draft an athlete program will showcase the company’s
support to Special Olympics PEI and help offset the cost
of these Games.
Businesses and employees may pledge
to ‘Draft’ a Team PEI member by holding their
own internal fundraisers or by simply making a corporate
donation.
To date, we have 21 athletes and
2 coaches drafted and the goal is to have all 30 athletes
and 11 coaches drafted before we fly off to London Ontario
on July 12th.
