2011 - Special Olympics PEI is once again Master Promotions'
Charity of Choice
- Again this year SOPEI has been selected to be the Charity
of Choice at the PEI Home Show, by Master Promotions. SOPEI
athletes and volunteers will be serving delicious ADL ice
cream as a fundraiser at the show. The home is taking place
April 8-10th at the Civic Center.

23, 2011 - Special Olympics PEI 10th Annual Male Beauty
Contest -
Come watch MEN, in high heels, dresses, and make-up strut
their stuff, and watch the crowing of Miss SOPEI of the
decade, all for a great cause. For the 10th Anniversary
of Margaret MacPherson's fan favorite event, we are inviting
back past winners to compete against new hopefuls in this
Anniversary Extravaganza! Come watch your favorites walk
down the cat-walk one more time.

and contestants for this fun fundraising event! If you would

The show is taking place Thursday,
April 7th, 2011 at the Carrefour de l'Isle-St-Jean Theatre,
Charlottetown. Doors open at 6:30 pm, the show starts at
7 pm. Tickets are $10 and their are exciting door prizes
to be won!

4, 2011 - Youth Programs - The Active Start
and FUNdamentals programs are new initiatives that offer
physical activity opportunities to children between the
ages of 2 – 12. Special Olympics Prince Edward Island
introduced the programs to assist in developing basic sport
and motor skills of children with an intellectual disability
through fun and positive activities. Click

1, 2011 - Applications for the 2012 National Winter Games
in St. Albert, AB - Coaches and Missions
staff positions are being sought for next Febuary's (2012)
National Winter Games. Please see the enclosed
information if you wish to apply. Those applying for
coaching positions, must have been in attendance at the
2011 Provincial Games in Oromocto NB. Mission Staff applicants
must be registered members of Special Olympics PEI to apply.
Job descriptions are included in the package. Deadline for
applications is February 28, 2011. Any questions, please

31, 2011 - Team PEI Goes for the Gold this Weekend in New
Brunswick - This weekend,
February 3-6, 2011, members of Special Olympics PEI will
travel to CFB Gage Town in Oromocto to compete in the Special
Olympics New Brunswick Winter Games. Team PEI will be made
up of 71 athletes, coaches and mission staff from across
the Island. These Games are the first in a series of qualifying
events for the National Winter Games to be held in February,
2012 in St. Albert, Alberta.
Special Olympics PEI athletes will
be competing in four events, floor hockey, snowshoeing,
curling and figure skating.
This competition will be the first
Provincial Games for 17 Team PEI members. They will be looking
to senior athletes, like Tommy MacGuigan, a twenty year
veteran of Special Olympics, for guidance. Tommy will be
competing in floor hockey.
We wish Team PEI safe travels and
good luck as they go for Gold this weekend. Be sure to visit

Special Olympics PEI is a charitable
organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Prince
Edward Islanders with an intellectual disability through
sport. Athletes can participate in either community or competitive
sport streams and have the opportunity to train year-round
and compete at games held provincially, nationally and internationally.
