15, 2010 - SOPEI Annual Awards - Special
Olympics PEI is once again inviting Islanders to nominate
for its Annual Awards Presentation.
Nominations may be made by any member
of Special Olympics PEI as well as the general public, in
any of the 10 categories. Deadline for nominations is Friday,
February 19.
Forms are available by calling Special
Olympics PEI at 368-8919, or by downloading them from www.sopei.com.
The Awards Presentations will take
place on March 25th, 2009, at the Loyalist Country Inn in
Summerside at 7:00pm with a victory dance to follow at 8:30pm.
Awards will be presented in ten categories.
Eastlink Advertising Male Athlete of the Year
PEI Mutual Insurance Company Female Athlete of the Year
Spirit Award (athlete award)
Dr. Frank Hayden Award (athlete award)
Maritime Electric Male Coach of the Year
Maritime Electric Female Coach of the Year
Community & Cultural Affairs Sport Volunteer of the
Year
Facility of the Year Award
David Andrew Memorial Award (parent award)
President’s Award
In addition to the ten awards categories,
Special Olympics PEI will honor those volunteers who have
contributed 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service to the movement.
Special Olympics PEI is a charitable
organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Prince
Edward Islanders with an intellectual disability through
sport. Athletes can participate in either community or competitive
sport streams and have the opportunity to train year-round
and compete at games held provincially, nationally and internationally.

3, 2010 - Charlottetown Fawcetts Fastball club Donate to
SOPEI - The Charlottetown Fawcetts Fastball
club donate $200 to Special Olympics PEI. Pictured above
is Fawcetts coach, Doug Hines presenting a cheque to Valerie
Downe, Special Olympics Executive Director. The Fawcetts
club held a fundraising dance on February 6th to raise money
for their Fastball Club and Special Olympics PEI. The Fawcetts
Fastball Club is hosting the 2010 Senior Mens Fastball Nationals
in August at the West Royalty Diamonds. Thank you to the
Charlottetown Fawcetts Fast Club for this kind donation
and good luck at the Nationals!

3, 2010 - Deltaware Inc. Helps Islanders with Intellectual
Disabilities - John Donohoe (center) a staff
member of Deltaware Inc. presents Brad Colwill (left), Special
Olympics PEI Board of Directors volunteer and Michael Morris,
Special Olympics PEI athlete with a $600.00 donation from
the Deltaware staff fund to Special Olympics PEI. This donation
will help support the 340 Island athletes with intellectual
disabilities participating in over 40 sport programs happening
on a weekly basis on PEI. Thank you to Deltaware for this
generous donation.
