December 15, 2009 - Special Olympics PEI Announces Team PEI 2010 - 30 athletes and 11 coaches and mission staff have been selected to represent PEI at the 2010 Special Olympics Canada National Summer next July in London, Ontario.

Athletes will be competing in the sports of softball, swimming, track & field, 5-pin and 10-pin bowling during the week of July 12 – 17, 2010.

“We are very excited about Team PEI 2010. Our Provincial Teams have a reputation of recruiting very qualified and capable volunteers to serve as mission staff and coaches. Once again we are very pleased with the group that will lead our teams preparing for, and during, the 2010 Games.” says Chef de Mission, Charity Sheehan.

Team members will be busy over the next year training weekly, attending training camps and fundraising as they prepare for London.

The 2010 Special Olympics Canada National Summer Games will bring together over 1400 athletes, coaches and mission staff from ten provinces and two territories, competing in eight different sports. From these games, Team Canada will be selected to compete in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece

Special Olympics PEI is a charitable organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Prince Edward Islanders with an intellectual disability through sport. Athletes can participate in either community or competitive sport streams and have the opportunity to train year-round and compete at games held provincially, nationally and internationally.
